Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)
Healthy Meibomian glands secrete oil with every blink. This oil, or lipid, serves as a critical component of a healthy tear film. When the glands are not functioning properly, it is called Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). MGD is a leading cause of dry eye and can be the source of symptoms, such as burning, stinging, and itching and even watery eyes.
Computer users tend to primarily suffer from this type of dry eye the most. Increased screen time has led to a significant increase in evaporative dry eye around the globe! At Chino Hills Eyecare, Dr. Gupta and his team provide cutting edge therapies that can help relieve dry eye and also save the glands from decay. At our clinic, we use a number of different technologies to determine whether you may be experiencing dry eye and to better understand your symptoms. Dry Eye is a serious condition that can dramatically affect your vision and your eye health. |
LipiFlow®
Designed to Improve Gland Function
The TearScience® LipiFlow® Thermal Pulsation System, is a medical device used to treat Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). It consists of a Console and a single-use sterile device, known as the Activator, and has a drug-free mechanism of action. Lipiflow is FDA approved for treatment of MGD. Chino Hills Eyecare uses the TearScience® LipiFlow® System to treat MGD patients in-office with confidence and efficiency. Many of our patients that have ben using eyedrops fruitlessly have enjoyed the benefits of this treatment and felt relief unattainable with standard artificial tears.
The TearScience® LipiFlow® System represents more than 10 years of dedicated research and is protected by more than 30 patents. A phased pressure profile with adaptive force equalization and proximal-to-distal peristaltic motion evacuates gland contents as the inner lid is gently heated.

What is TearCare® ?
TearCare® is an innovative Dry Eye procedure that targets the blocked meibomian glands in your eyelids that produce oils to keep your tears healthy. When these glands become blocked or have reduced function, your tears may evaporate more quickly. Unblocking these glands with the TearCare® System can help restore their function and stabilize the tear film. This may improve the quality of tears and reduce symptoms like dryness, gritty or scratchy sensations, blurry vision, and watery eyes.
